Cognac Masters 2021 – Masters Award
“Complex and superbly balanced” “Silky smooth texture” “Really long and expressive” Judges’ comments
This cognac was made on a small still where flavour and alcohol can be balanced more easily. At 47% there are wonderful flavours of roasted walnuts, coffee and orange marmalade. Pears, turmeric and other spices occupy the centre ground with tastes of citrus fruits and kumquats remaining on the palate for a long time.

Additional Information
- Aroma:
- Nutmeg, ginger, roasted walnuts and a hint of wild cherry.
- Ageing:
- Aged in 250 litre casks, 6 months in new and then into old. Cellars are reasonably damp. The cognac is still in oak barrels.
- Distillation:
- Made on a small 12 hl still. Cognacs are very traditional here and the process is on the lees
- Flavour:
- Many of these fine cognacs have richer and more powerful flavours. There is an initial marmalade and walnut flavour with some coffee. Pistachio, turmeric, cloves and pear occupy the centre ground followed with a long kumquat and citrus peel finish.
- Grape Variety:
- Ugni Blanc
- Reduction & Strength:
- The cognac is sold at 47% and has been slightly reduced with distilled water.
- Viticulture:
- This is an area of gentle slopes with very porous chalk in several layers, predominantly of the Coniaçian variety, allowing the vine roots to penetrate to a deep level.
