Pineau des Charentes is a combination of the water clear eau de vie distilled at around 70% abv and the indigenous grape juice of the region mixed at a ratio of 25% eau de vie and 75% grape juice. The Charente sits in some of the greatest grape producing areas to the north of Bordeaux.

- There’s a wonderful sweet aroma of rose hips
- Ageing:
- Pineau is aged in oak casks for between around 3 and 15 years. This Bertrand pineau is aged for a minimum of five years and mellows in the cask
- Distillation:
- Cognac distillation using the Charente Alembic stills
- Flavour:
- Sweet and rich cherry and cassis
- Grape Variety:
- Ugni Blanc for the eau de vie and cabernet sauvignon and merlot for the juice
- Reduction & Strength:
- There is no reduction of the eau de vie
- Viticulture:
- Chalky, thin soils on top of soft chalk from the Cretaceous. Very high limestone content from the surface down. Montmorillonite clay provides fertile soils with good structure and water reserve.
